With
the magnificent mountain scenery of Mt. Annapurna
( 8,091m.), the scenic ice pyramid of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,767m.)
and the view of Mt. Macchapuchhre (6,993m.), the Annapurna
Circuit is an attractive destination to visit. Once the home
to the legendary Buddhist guru Padmasamba, the circuit is
stretched to about 300 kilometres around the Annapurna range
in the Himalayas. The 8,091-metre Mt. Annapurna was the
first peak above 8,000m. to have been climbed.
During the trek, one has to reach the Thorung La Pass at an
elevation of 5,300 metres. The pass touches the edge of the
much-fabled Tibetan plateau.
The world-famous circuit trek follows trails used as
trade routes between Nepal and Tibet in the ancient times.
With dominance of the traditional culture, the region is an
inaccessible area. Having several pilgrimage sites, the region
boasts of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism,
Hinduism and the mysterious Bon-Po religion.
Because of varied topographic and climatic conditions, the
circuit (between 900m. and 5,300m.) attracts thousands of
tourists with different tastes and interests.
