Mt. Chulu West is higher than Mt. Chulu Far West. The peak has been popular following the successful ascent of the peak by a Japanese expedition in 1952. Lying in a tiny valley in the northern part of Manang, the Base Camp of the peak  off the main trail to the Thorang La.

In the nearby area, there are more  peaks. They are also a part of Mt. Chulu. However, it is difficult for one to differentiate between the two Chulu peaks. Chulu group includes four peaks. Two of them are in the east and the remaining two are in the west.  Chulu West is often known as Chulu Central. Although climbers do not face any technical difficulty while ascending the peak, progress is slow because  the slopes are vulnerable to avalanches in certain conditions.
