Situated
in the northeastern part of Nepal (close to the Nepal-Sikkim-Tibet)
boarder, Mt. Kanchnajungha is the third highest peak in the
world. The first human ascent to the peak was made in
1955. The peak is surrounded by mountains of equal
height.
The mountain comprises of four
summits, which are known as the Main Summit, Middle Summit, South
Summit and Yalung Kang ( West Summit). Although attempts had
been made to scale the peak many years back, it was climbed
successfully by a British expedition in 1955. There are four routes to the
peak . The route via the South Summit is believed to be
difficult.
