Broad Peak, situated across the Baltoro Glacier from K2 in northeastern Pakistan, takes its name from its most striking feature—a 2-kilometer-wide summit ridge—as well as its resemblance to Switzerland’s Breithorn, which translates to “broad horn” in German. This distinctive trait contributes to its reputation as one of the less challenging climbs among the 8,000-meter peaks. As a result, it’s frequently regarded as a stepping stone for more ambitious endeavors, such as tackling its formidable neighbor, K2.
