The Mundum Trek (also known as the Kirat Rai Cultural Trek) is a culturally rich trekking route that explores the lifestyle of the Kirati people in eastern Nepal. Opened in January 2018, this trek takes you through beautiful, unspoiled villages and settlements, offering a deep dive into the traditions and beliefs of the Kirati community. The trail, which reaches up to 4,200 meters at Silchung Peak, provides breathtaking views of the Himalayas, including five 8,000-meter peaks such as Mt. Everest and Makalu. The trek passes through picturesque villages like Diktel Bazar, Salpa Bhanjyang, and ends in Bhojpur.
The Mundum Trek is a mix of camping, tea houses, and hotel accommodations, with meals provided throughout the trek, except in Kathmandu. The trek is suitable for moderate-level trekkers, with a maximum altitude of 4,200 meters, making it less risky for altitude sickness. Drinking water is available along the trail, but purification tablets are recommended. The best times to embark on the Mundum Trek are during the spring (March-May) and autumn (September-December), offering pleasant weather with either lush greenery or light snowfall, depending on the season.
